Anime Tier List 2026 - Ranking the Best Anime of All Time
The definitive anime tier list for 2026. We ranked 90+ anime series from S-tier to D-tier based on community votes, power scaling, and cultural impact.
How We Rank Anime
This isn't a personal opinion list. VersusAnime tracks thousands of community votes across character battles and show-vs-show matchups. When fans consistently vote for characters from a specific anime - and that anime wins its head-to-head show battles - we can objectively measure which shows the community considers the strongest.
We combined three signals:
- Character win rates - How often do a show's fighters win their matchups?
- Show battle results - Direct anime-vs-anime community votes
- Vote volume - More votes = more confidence in the ranking
Here's the tier list.
S-Tier - The Untouchables
These anime dominate every metric. Their characters top the power rankings, they win show battles, and they pull the most votes.
Dragon Ball (all series) The franchise that invented anime power scaling for Western audiences. Goku alone sits in the top 5 of our character rankings, and DB characters collectively have some of the highest win rates on the platform. Universe-level feats are the baseline here.
Naruto / Naruto Shippuden The single most represented franchise in anime battle communities. Naruto, Sasuke, Madara, Itachi, Pain - every arc produced iconic fighters. Shippuden's war arc gave us some of the most debated power matchups in anime history.
One Piece Luffy's Gear 5 put One Piece into genuine top-tier scaling conversations. The show's roster is absurdly deep - Kaido, Shanks, Mihawk, Akainu, Blackbeard - and the community votes reflect it.
Jujutsu Kaisen The modern shonen king. Gojo Satoru is consistently the #1 or #2 most voted character on VersusAnime. Sukuna, Toji, and Yuta round out a roster that competes with any classic.
A-Tier - Legendary
Not quite the voting powerhouses of S-tier, but these anime produce elite fighters and passionate fan bases.
Bleach Ichigo, Aizen, Yamamoto, Kenpachi - Bleach's top-tier characters have universe-level feats in TYBW. The anime's return revitalized its community presence.
Demon Slayer Tanjiro and the Hashira are consistent performers. The animation quality gives Demon Slayer characters an outsized presence in fan debates.
Attack on Titan Levi, Eren, and Mikasa are cultural icons. AoT's power system is more grounded, but the show's legacy keeps its characters highly voted.
My Hero Academia Deep roster of well-known fighters. Deku, Bakugo, Todoroki, and All Might are household names in the anime community.
Hunter x Hunter Killua, Gon, Meruem, Netero - HxH's power system (Nen) is considered one of the best in anime, and its fighters consistently punch above their weight in community votes.
Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood The highest-rated anime on MAL isn't just critically acclaimed - Roy Mustang, the Elric brothers, and King Bradley are legit contenders in battle discussions.
B-Tier - Strong Contenders
Excellent anime with solid rosters, but they don't dominate the vote counts like the tiers above.
One Punch Man - Saitama is a wildcard in every discussion, but the supporting cast (Garou, Boros, Tatsumaki) carries real weight too.
Mob Psycho 100 - Mob's psychic powers make him a surprisingly strong contender. Underrated in battle communities.
Black Clover - Asta and the Magic Knights have a passionate fanbase. Power scaling got wild in the later arcs.
Chainsaw Man - Denji, Makima, and Pochita are new but already heavily debated. The power system is unique and hard to scale.
Solo Leveling - Sung Jinwoo's shadow army makes him a community favorite. The anime adaptation boosted his presence significantly.
Fairy Tail - Natsu and Erza are well-known, and the magic system allows for big feats. Consistent mid-tier performers.
Sword Art Online - Love it or hate it, Kirito is one of the most recognized anime characters worldwide.
C-Tier - Niche but Respected
These anime have dedicated fanbases and specific characters who perform well, but they don't have the roster depth to compete overall.
JoJo's Bizarre Adventure - Stand powers make JoJo characters wildly unpredictable. Jotaro and DIO are iconic, but the power system doesn't scale conventionally.
Berserk - Guts is a fan favorite in every battle forum. The manga's legacy carries enormous weight.
Vinland Saga - Thorfinn is respected, but the show's realism limits power scaling discussions.
Tokyo Ghoul - Kaneki has a strong fanbase, but the anime's later seasons diluted the brand.
Fire Force - Shinra's Adolla Burst puts him in surprisingly high-tier discussions.
Fate series - Gilgamesh and Saber are strong contenders, but the Fate power system is notoriously complicated to scale.
D-Tier - The Underdogs
Not bad anime - just not battle-focused enough to generate competitive rosters.
Shows like Death Note, Steins;Gate, and Code Geass are masterpieces, but Light Yagami and Lelouch aren't winning fistfights. Their strength is intelligence and strategy, which doesn't always translate to community battle votes.
